Default Made a Rookie Mistake. Bought engine without removing heads

Alright, I made a rookie mistake. I bought an engine without removing the heads/pan and got burnt. I bought an aluminum block 5.3L, 243 heads, 58x crank, no DoD, flat top pistons. After removing the heads, I found a nice score in one of the cylinders (see attachment). Since I only paid $400 for it all, I still think it was an OK deal. Anyway, I'm looking for my next plan of action here. I'm building this for a porsche 944, so I want to stick with Al block. I'm fairly certain I have a gen 4 block. I was told it's a 2008 block. I'm just not sure which version. I think the DoD was removed by a previous owner, based on the massive amount of RTV on the oil pan.

My main question is, can a Gen IV Al block be bored out to LS6 specs? Otherwise, I think the cheapest route is for me to just pickup an LS1 shortblock. Unless a junkyard around here has a decent shape Al short block 5.3. I want to keep it cheapish if possible, whichever path I take.

Any thoughts?

Yeah it can go out to 3.905". I have a 2009 5.3L (LC9) that I had planned on doing the same too.

That scratch really doesn't look that bad, though. It looks like something got into the chamber and in between the rings/piston. You could probably take it apart, have a machinist bump a bone through it, and reassemble with new rings.

Awesome, that's good news to me. I'll get it honed and see how it is from there. It does turn over smoothly.

Thanks!

Can you feel it with your fingernail? Or can you just see the marks?

If by some crazy luck they can only been seen and not felt, I wouldn't worry about them. If you can indeed feel them I would have a machinist look at them and see if he can just do a clean up pass as stated by the other guys above.
