Are Cometic 4.08"x.045" @$150 worth it over GM 4.085"x.051" @$70, just to end up raising SCR from 11.13 to 11.31 and reduce cold quench from .041 to .035? SCR is advertised to be raised 3-4% for a full point of compression, and if that's accurate then the price isn't worth it. Would the reduced quench be worth it?

I had Cometic's years back on a forged LS1 and I used the copper spray on them, but that was when the entire longblock was out of the car and was honed, decked, etc. I seem to recall that the Cometic's were more particular about the finish on the heads & deck, and I'm concerned that using them on a block which isn't being removed from the car would cause sealing problems if the deck surface isn't perfect.

Anytime you get up to and above 11:1 SCR, optimized quench is ALWAYS a good idea!

Cometic head gaskets are arguably the best quality head gaskets available, too.

Whether they are "worth it" is up to your wallet and whether you desire to optimize your build....

Resealing an imperfect deck would be an issue for ANY head gasket.....to include OEM.

It's probably the best $/hp ratio mod there is if the heads are already off, why not?
