Default 402 Cam Gear help

I have a 2002 Trans Am with a HCI LS1 sitting in front of a 4L80e.

I just came up on a 2005 LS2 block with covers out of a GTO for a great price and plan on going with a 402 rotating assembly(24x) and use my A.I 243 heads.

My question(s) is besides the cam sensor and knock sensors is everything else a direct swap as in timing set from my old LS1 swapping over to the LS2...

Been doing lots of research but can't quite figure this out.

Thanks

You are also going to need an LS2 timing set, valley cover, and harness extensions for the cam position sensor and knock sensor harnesses. I would also recommend a high volume oil pump, just because it will be the easiest time to do it.

Not a dumb question, but here is a dumb answer.
I dont know. It is what I was told by Texas Speed when I was doing my 402 build. I think it may have something to do with the damper and chain length.

GM doesnt make LS1 timing chains anymore, and the LS2 chain is beefier.

This is from Texas-Speed, in the LS2 402 short block description.
We do offer an optional conversion package that will include the LS2 timing cover with camshaft position sensor, LS2 valley cover, LS2 lifter trays, LS2-specific timing set, and plug-n-play harness extensions for the camshaft position and knock sensor harnesses. This will be required if you are installing the engine into an LS1 vehicle. Feel free to give us a call, and we will be more than happy to put an itemized estimate together for you!

The LS2 has the cam position sensor in the front cover and reads a bump off the cam gear. The LS1 has the cam sensor in the back of the block, so the cam gear doesn't have the bump for the LS2 cam sensor to read.

If you search, you will find a lot of info on the subject and should even find part numbers. I'm using an Fbody PCM in my LS2 Mustang swap and all the info I needed was easy to find.

Ok, so I got this figured out...

The LS1 cam gear is picture D and is what comes on all Fbodies...

The Ls2 cam gear is C and is what is needed for 24x reluctor wheels in Fbodies...

When searching the part number I got both cam gears coming up for GM so that is what made this so confusing... But I now see that the "C" gear is needed as it has the hump for the CPS in the front.

Thanks for the help guys, hope this helps people in the future!
