So a while back I swapped cams in my c5 and had autozone order me a timing chain for an ls2 06 GTO(I picked a random ls2 equipped car). Anyway it was like 35 bucks. Now I'm building my C6, and the new chain was gonna cost me like 85 bucks. Long story short, the part numbers are different but wouldn't they interchange? I called gm and they said the part numbered the same. Anyone?
Yup pretty much. Even though it's the same part in the end, those stores price it differently at the point of sale because they know Corvette owners will pay that kind of price thinking it's some special "Corvette only" part.
Thats because a 2006 Corvette has a 58 tooth reluctor wheel vs 24 tooth for the 2006 GTO. So the cam sprocket for the 2006 & up Vette is a 4x vs 1x for the GTO, the chain & crank gear are the same.
