LS2 Cam sensor issue
The engine came out of a 2008 Pontiac G8, has had a bigger better meaner cam installed, and he's using a GM off highway computer for an 08-09 Camaro. We've tried doing the cam sensor wire swap, and a new cam sensor.
I did do a little research and saw that some of the Pontiacs used a 24x reluctor on the cam, where as the computer calls for a 58x, so he is currently in the middle of pulling the starter to count teeth. I kind of doubt this is an issue since it's an '08, but he wants to check anyway.
Hoping guys can help.
Figured out the problem, the reluctor is either seated too deep, or we've got the wrong sensor. The sensor isn't picking up a signal from the reluctor at all. Did some tests on the sensor, and it's fine. So need to find out if their is a different sensor we can get, can I mill off part of the cover to get the sensor closer, or do we need to change the reluctor?
If you and your dad didn't change any of that, then I think your assumption about spacing of the cam sensor may be incorrect. If you changed the timing set, possibly you put a 1x timing gear in there. You'd have 1/4 of the signals needed to run right. Make sense?
See this link for a visual.. A and B are 4x timing gears(1- and 3-bolt cam, respectively) and C is 1x.
