Default Ls2 Advice

New to the site and need some thoughts before I move forward. I am in the beginning stages of building a 1955 2 door Belair and would like to install an LS engine. I have found a new 2006 LS 2 crate motor that has never run that I am considering. I have several questions before I go look at the motor:

The motor has had the cam upgraded to a Comp 265. Not sure yet of all the specs, I am hoping someone on the site can help me understand more about this cam. Also with this cam will the stock springs or any of the valve train need replaced or upgraded? I am not sure at this point if the springs remain stock or have been upgraded. Also what will the performance be like with this cam swap.

Also what would be a reasonable price to pay for the motor. There is no harness or ecm included with the motor. Again this is being represented as a crate motor with a cam swap that has never been run.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

It depends on which 265 cam it is. If its the standard lift cam, it will work fine with stock LS2 valve springs. If its the high-lift version, it might not be a bad idea to upgrade springs although I wouldn't say 100% necessary.

I paid, 2 years ago, $2500 for a 50K mile LS2 long block plus oil pan and covers. For an LS, that's almost new IMO. I would give a $500 premium for the "new" engine. That cam would cost about $350 but a stock new LS2 cam would be worth $100 at least. I would be curious about the conditions this thing lived in for 10 years of not being run though. Something broken in, IMO, is more predictable. Now "crate" has many definitions...so what all is included? What's hanging off the engine already?

LS2 is awesome but getting long in the tooth. LS3s/L92s are becoming much more available so I think that works against the value of the LS2..a little.

Edit: sorry for the misinfo. I remember now that $2500 was asking. I convinced the seller to keep the intake/rail/injectors/sensors/throttle body and sell separately. I paid $2100

Default LS2 rebuild

What's up gents. Need to pick your brains. I have an ls2 that I am rebuilding. I need some advice on the lower end. The engine currently has about 80k on it. It's a back up engine for my TBSS. I am going with an LS7 cam and springs up top. Doing a valve job on the heads. Don't want to build a monster. Would like to get about 500 or so hp. Need some help on the bottom end. Do you guys have any suggestions.

Thanks
B
