Default L92 lifter/spring selection

I got all the parts together to do a cam swap, lifters, springs, pushrods, cam, everything. I bought the CTS-V lifters, and a double spring kit from TSP. I just found out today that the max seat pressure that can be used with those lifters is <100lbs closed and <300 open. The spring kit I have is rated at 16 closed and 415 open. I have also heard the cts-v lifters are built for stock cam sizes. My cam is a 220/226 .598/.598 116 LSA +4 advance. So now the question I have is do I change the lifters or the springs?

Welcome to the forums.

Honestly, those springs seem quite stiff for a naturally aspirated motor. There are times when an engine needs springs like that, and I do not think this is one of those times, personally. So I would change to a high quality beehive spring with more manageable rates.

That being said, switching to a higher quality lifter solves more problems. Stock lifters, even the CTS-V lifters, are only so good. Regardless. Some Morel lifters would handle the springs you have now, and are a flat out higher quality pieces with better features.

But the lifters you have will work with the cam you have if you switch springs. New lifters would work with the cam you have and the springs you have. And the springs you have now can handle boost... which I just assume is the endgame for everyone building an LS engine.

Yes, I do have plans to boost the truck in the future. If I just change springs now, I would have to change lifters and springs when I boost it, or no? I don't want to tear this thing down again.

If I change springs, what would be some good ones for the lifters I have? If I change lifters, which morels are good?

Seems a guy can find a lot of info on anything LS besides this particular subject.

It is always a good idea to change valve springs when adding boost. Valve springs are a wear item and do need to be replaced. Adding boost puts a lot of extra strain on the valve springs, so it would behoove you to get new springs when adding boost. But the dual springs you have now will work just fine with boost.

That being said, I think your best bet now would be to replace the LS7 lifters with something like the Morel 5290 link-bar lifters. They will handle the dual springs you have now, and are an overall better design than the LS7 lifters. The Morel 5290's cost ~$375 from Brain Tooley.

While you combo is not optimal, you can change to a beehive spring like PAC 1518 or even a PAC 1218 would work fine for your cam. If you want to keep the dual spring kit change the lifter to a drop in replacement, i wouldnt use a linkbar in you situation. If you are going to spend 300 plus on a lifter get the Johnson 2110 lifter. Much better than morel. TSP has them and might want to call and see if they can exchange your caddy lifters. They have always been good to me on stuff like that

Those Johnson 2110 lifters are really nice. Either way, I think switching the lifters is your best course of action.
