Default 2005 LQ4 - Buy or NO?

Hey y'all,

I have the opportunity to get a mill on the cheap. This is directly from the ad: Vortec 6.0, removed from a 2005 silverado 3500. 145k on it. Lost oil pressure but never made noise. Ran until pulled and swapped. Has accessory bracket & ps pump, no coils or wiring, what you see is what you get. Might be a simple fix, might need complete rebuild

$500 b/o

I offered him $400 cash, he accepted and I am pumped. Going to pick her up by the end of this week. I figure as long as the block is good then I really can't go wrong. Any input much appreciated!!

Seems like a good deal for a rebuildable core. I would take a socket and ratchet with you to make sure the crank turns. If the main bearings spun and it won't turn over, it may not be worth it. Line boring and honing to fix it would cost too much.

I won't take it home without spinning it. Definitely good advice for anyone buying any engine anywhere. I am hopeful to get lucky with an easy fix on this one, will just mean it will go into my truck sooner. If not, no worries - I'll rebuild it or save it for a g-body project next year.

My main objective here is to replace my 4.8 in my daily with a cammed 6.0. This ones got a few miles less than my 4.8 (145k vs 180k on mine) and I already got a full kooks/corsa exhaust setup on the truck with a blackbear tune. The biggest concern is buiding up a 4L60E for power or getting a 4L80E instead.

Grabbed it up on Friday afternoon. Turned the balancer by hand. Got it on the stand at home, took off a valve cover and its nice and clean! More on the back story, the dude's dad bought the truck "needing an engine", drove it around for a week with the dash lights, then the kid drove it into his shop and swapped it out. More and more I am thinking its the oil pump sending unit. We will see!!!

I decided that since there is oil in it I am going to have it analyzed. That should tell me a bit as to the internal situation. I got spec'd a 224/228 .600/.600 112lsa cam and a Circle D 278mm 3000-3200 stall. I will run a aftermarket cooler and pray I get a some decent life out of my 4L60 (we will see!!)

I am on the lookout for a 2004-2006 4L60 that I can build up in the meantime.

I may also have the 317 castings milled, and port and polish too. Should just about double my rwhp compared to my 4.8!!!!
