Choosing a Cam
I am looking for a cam that has good street manners, good power band, and good sound.
I was also planning to put on a new balancer, balancer bolt, push rods, springs etc. and front engine gasket.
These are the cam packages I'm looking at:
BTR Stage 3 Cam
LS1/2 Stage III Cam 231/242 .617"/.592" 112+2
BTR Stage 2 Cam
LS1/2 Stage II Cam 227/234 .614"/.576" 113+2
Texas Speed Cam
228/232.600"/.600" 112

based on your goals, followed by the Texas speed.
I would also suggest looking at the Cam Motion
LS2 Stage II IF this is a daily driver wanting the best
Street manners.
Good Luck.
You should also look into TSP's line of cams
The 228R 228/228 .600/.600 on a 112 LSA. In my opinion, the smallest cam worth changing for your motor.
The Torquer V2 232/234 .600/.600 on a 112 LSA. TSP says it should produce 5-7 more RWHP than the 228R. The V2 will give you a nice broad torque curve compared to the others I have listed.
The 233/239 .600/.600 on a 112 LSA, TSP says it should produce 5-7 more HP then the Torquer V2. TSP says this is their most recommend cam for a stockish LS1/2/6, at least last time I checked with them.
Lastly, their Magic Stick 3 238/242 .600/.600 on a 112 LSA, TSP also says this will produce 5-7 more HP than the 233/239 cam. TSP labels this as their "Max Effort" cam and is the largest they recommend for a stockish LS1/2/6 and will work with stock heads but they recommend ported heads, long tubes and a good flowing intake to really benefit this large cam.
I have been told to stay under 242/242 duration for good streetability, also to not go narrower than a 112 LSA to pass smog with the larger cams (this will vary depending on state), now I could of been told wrong information tho. Personally, I see no need in going over .600 lift with stock or mildy ported heads since there will be virtually no benefit and will be easier on the valvetrain. Just my opinion tho
If you are looking for the most HP and still have a streetable cam. I would choose the Magic Stick 3, Now this is a very large cam for a relatively stock motor but is streetable, especially since you have a manual trans. I have seen really good reviews about this and have heard, in a LS6, made a 67 RWHP gain. I would also look into possibly having PRC do a Stage 1 port Job and combined you should see really nice gains.
If you want more of a tame cam, the Torquer V2 is awesome. I am no expert and other will chime in. I have personally been around the 228R (228/228 .600/.600), Torquer V2 (232/234 .600/.600) and the MS3 (238/242 .600/.600) and drove the cars. The Magic Stick 3 would be the largest cam I would run in your motor and still be streetable.

And I should've posted the TSP cam as a second choice.
The cam in my '95 Impala specs out closely to the TSP cam and it has been great for a daily driver.....but the stage 2 cam is slightly milder and will give better drivability with a power loss that would be too slight to notice.
I think both cams will give you what you want.
