Default L96 Engine

Good morning, newbie here and I am just starting to get into building my truck. It's a 85 GMC Sierra and I was going to go with a 350 crate engine but yesterday my work offered to sell me a 2010 GMC Sierra 2500HD with a L96 engine, 6 speed auto tansmission 2WD. They are asking $500 (Canadian) for the whole truck, about 100,000 miles and well maintained. I'm not looking to upgrade or do any performance add-ons to the engine right now and i'm looking for fora drop in place but the more i read the more I realize there is so much I don't know... All i'm looking for right now is someone to tell me yes this is a good deal and a somewhat easy job to do, or to stay away and go back to my original plan of a crate engine. I think its a good deal since i'm getting the whole truck so I won't be trying to find harnesses, ecm, sensors etc. Thanks in advance.

That's an insane deal. The bare engine alone probably goes for more than that. But you get all the wiring, accessories, transmission and a whole damn truck lol.

Let me get this straight...You are asking if purchasing a 2010 GMC Sierra 2500 for $500 is a good deal? Is that serious question? Were you home schooled? How much did you pay for the 85' Sierra? $5.00?

Ok I should clarify I know the truck is a good deal but I'm not in the scrap car business and am not gonna buy it to part it out. I want to drop the 6.0l into my truck but with all the technology crap that the new engines have on them, would it be worth my time, or stick to my original plan of a crate 350. And for the record I paid 1,000 for the truck. Welcome to my part of Canada where **** aint cheap

Buy the truck no matter what you choose to do. That's super cheap. Get the engine, transmission, and all associated wiring. I'd even keep the gas tank for the fuel pump setup. Then scrap the rest or try to sell the rest on Craigslist.
