5.3 rebuild upgrades

5.3 rebuild upgrades I have a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 with the LC9 5.3l V8. It has 193000 miles and is starting to blow by oil on the right side so I think it is time for a rebuild. I am planning on removing the AFM components during the rebuild but was wondering if there are any good mild upgrades I can do since I am already replacing the cam and lifter? I want something pretty mild since my wife will still be driving it to work every day but would like a little more power when pulling the boat..

I would do a small cam, such as a Brian Tooley Truck Stage 2 (212/218 .553/.553 113+2) which is an awesome cam BTW. Great cam for all around performance and towing. Upgrade your valve springs with Blue LS3 springs or PAC 1218 Beehives (For suggested cam, larger cam may require dual springs), possibly have your stock heads ported and milled and go with a thinner head gasket to achieve desired quench (.035-.040"), equal length longtube headers, a small higher stall converter such as a 2400-2600 stall.
Those are just a few suggestions. My current setup with the BTR Truck Stage 2 cam peaked at 446 crank HP under 6k rpm and 418 lb-ft of torque. It has a mild lope sound and is very tame but gets up and goes.
