Default LS3 Swap Questions

So its been forever since posting here last but I am in the process of building an LS3 to replace the LS1 that decided to hydrolock cylinder 6 and break a rod taking out the block.

So i pretty much have everything I need and after doing some searching I am having problems finding out what people are using for the mass air sensor. Also, I know I will need a legit tune but will the car start and at least idle with the tune I have or will I need a rough tune to at least get it to start?

So between maf sensor and tune what do you guys recommend.

Oh also, im going with a 228/240 113 eps cam, ls3 intake, stock compression, full exhaust and thats all the particulars i can think of.

Thanks

If it is going in your SS with stock wiring harness then youll want to use the truck maf. It flows well, uses stock piping for the most part and doesnt need a bunch of extra tuning and scaling to work.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yea i should have mentioned that it is indeed going back in the SS with factory wiring etc.

Do you have a link or P/N for the truck maf? Thats also an 85mm unit correct?

Youll also need inj adapters, cam and knock sensor extension harness, map sensor extension, and if using the 58x crank reluctor you need to reuse the gray crank sensor and the 58x to 24x conversion box.

The maf kit with adp harness is here

I have already swapped reluctor wheels to the 24x, i am planning on purchasing the ev6 plugs and swapping the ev1 plugs that are on the harness out with those, still need to pick up the harness extensions so thats on my to do list.

As far as the first start is concerned, will the tune thats been loaded in be close enough to get it started and relearn an idle or do i need a rough tune that will be a go between until i get it to a shop?

We have all those adapters avail. Give us a call or send an email Rpmspeedtech@gmail.com

You will want to reuse your map sensor as the new ls3 sensors are scaled diff. Normally youll just find an o ring or 2 that fit over the stock sensor grommet and fit snug in the map sensor bore from your local parts store.
The tune in it could make it start but i would not run it long.
Did you swap to a 1x timing set also?

Yes it did get the 1x timing set.

On the MAP sensors could the scales be corrected with a tune or are the two far enough apart that its not worth messing with?

Not only is the scale diff but you may need an adapter to fit the ls3 map. They changed them sometime in the 2010-2012 area and the conn and pinout is diff. That is why youd have to have the o rings on the ls1map as they changed the map and the hole size in intake. The orig l76 intake and map worked fine but they changed it all around that time.

The truck maf is a good simple upgrade. if you're using a stock intake you'll also need a customs throttle bracket
