Looking for anyone that has a good place to purchase a new ls3 bare block. Looking to get a bit of a deal. My local dealership will get it for around $1,600 was hoping to be under that amount. Thank you in advance.

Default Ruff Bore LS-3

Hi, I have bought the GM "ruff bore" LS-3 block, GM dealer, for $940.00.

They have "specials" such as this from time to time, you need to ask a GOOD counter man.

Seen you post this before, I have had zero luck finding this info. You don't have a part number by chance do you? Thanks

He is talking about damaged or blemished blocks. Normally they are tagged for return but the way gm works their returns they can take months to send back if ever so inexperienced parts guys will sell the block to make their manager happy whether the block is good or not. Stay away from that.
Gm doesnt make "rough bore" blocks and ok them for sale. They are normally mismachined in any number of ways and only a very competent machine shop could find all the issues and correct them and sometimes lead to odd parts sourcing to make them work right.

It looks like the cheapest they are allowed to be sold at is $1,519.32. May not be the case but I checked 15 websites and they all say the same $1,519.32. May be your best bet to find one with Free Shipping and Handling and No Tax.

Or better said go by/call a few salvage yards and get the complete engine if it's economical. We have a place and a guy here I know who buy's engine's, blocks, cranks & heads. A used ls3 block goes for around $500 to 600 bucks try looking and seeing if you have a place like this near you. They don't last long when they do come in.

Summit was $1520 free shipping no tax as long as you don't live in Ohio.

There was 1 used LS3 block locally for sale when I checked 2 yrs ago & they wanted $850. I didn't want none of the LS3 stock internals as I went forged & 24x.

Summit. The OP lives in Vegas and Summit does business out of RENO area so he'd have to pay sales tax.

Default Tony at PEP

Hi Tug, yes a "blem" (NPN) is easy to find, my "no-problem" is upon inspection the little spot (the blem) is of no concern to end my use.
The GM dealer will ALWAYS take a return if requested.

The Spoolin question : Call Tony (#146) at Precision Engine Parts (PEP) in Las Vegas.
He is a great help to ALL.

Tony is a good guy but pep also sells alot of cheap chinese parts as well and wont tell you.
As for any gm dealer...no.

Seriously stop giving out such terrible info. This comes up on a ln internet search and someone uses a blem block thats all messed up because you say so, they can blame you.

This isnt ebay, Craigslist, or amazon. The sponsors on here are held to a higher standard of parts and info they contribute. Budget builds are easy but using known wrong or bad parts is not in line with that.

I'd like to add that with anything over $1400 for a block I'd just call TSP and purchase a sleeved block for $2k. What's 600 bucks among friends and I'm getting a better product that allows for a bigger and better build? Stock ls3 block $1500 vs sleeved TSP block $2k 427+ cubic inches.

As they say hold what you got so you can get what you want, Not need. 300 here 300 there and you got it.

Pantera, thanks. I will reach out to them and see what the deal is.

Ws6store, I appreciate the time, info and affordable pricing you are bringing to this site. I plan on buying a couple rebuild kits from you as your pricing doesn't make it worth me searching for the best deals. I fully thought they would be blem blocks but that's not to say they are junk. What is usable with little to no work is totally different than buying a 30k+ car or truck with said blem in it. All manufacturing has there blems and sells them accordingly also. The biggest one for this site is the Ati balancer, 430+ new or get the blem when it pops up on eBay for 250 shipped. One could argue the harmonic balancer is one of the most important parts on a build but lots of people still using the blems.

I have seen more than my fair share of blems. it is very diff from buying a hail damaged car though.

Some cam tunnels were way off. Some decks were 9.24 on one side and .920 or less on the other. The list goes on. Some are worth it but still take an extra 200-300+ in machine work so pretty soon you are at the cost of a new block. And finding a competent machine shop to do all that seems like a fleeting possibility now days.

Sadly that deal is no longer Scott!

You could also contact Steve Demirjin at RED in Oceanside, CA and have him resleeve a 5.3 for you....

If I'm not badly mistaken, I paid $2100...I'd have to check my receipt to be sure. Send him an email, asking pricing. He will answer it very quickly. Stand up guy!

Totally agree with Patron here. If you're doing a budget build just find a decent car or truck block at a local wrecker. But once you got into the $1500+range the percentage increase in price for what you get at a place like TSP is worth it.
