Posssible to mid sleeve the LY6?
I know you can use the ls1 mid sleeves in the lq4. So would it work the same on the ly6? If so would it use the ls1/6 sleeve or the ls2/3/7.

Same engine as lq4 with up dated heads aka Ls3 heads. You’ll do better with a dry sleeve aluminum block... Cost is around $2k MID sleeve aluminum blocks run around $2500-2800. Cost to MID sleeve a iron block = $1500 for sleeve and $1500-1800 for block preparations. Don’t ask how I know. All information is from Steve @ RED about 5 yrs ago when I asked.

I have a 2000 trans am block I'm doing a 383 in now but from I hadnjnderstood they don't like using those earlier blocks for the mid sleeving. I saw the iron block that Steve had done posted on another thread. I just like it. I mean if I can do a 4.125 stroke 4.2" bore with reaplacable sleeves I'd imagine it would last forever. Aluminum ages funny I think. But idk.i could just be wrong.
i have my iron large bore bowtie race block set up for splayed valve heads still and that's been sleeved in the rear cilinders and it's still going strong after a few blow ups.

Sounds good in theory. Not in real $ and life. Lsx or Dart iron block for 4.200 or MID sleeve a normal aluminum Ls block. There will be a slight crack on the Lq near the cam with MID sleeve .....JB weld or epoxy. You don’t get all the added benefits of priority oiling etc.... cost is around the same.
Your talking let me Show you how I think.
Dear Paco
On a 4.400" bore spread, 4.200" is the max. possible bore size with either wet or dry sleeves. The only way to go to 4.250" on a 4.400" bore spread would be to machine the block to just under that size and have the bores plated with nikasil. Not sure how long it would last or what you would use for head gaskets at that bore size.
MID $2,675, Seal Tight dry $1,975. Max. bore on the dry is 4.185".

Iron LS MID
The one block I sleeved years ago was an LQ9 using the LS1 MID sleeves. This was before the iron LSx blocks were available. Customer wanted a large displacement engine that looked like a stocker.
The iron block is considerably thinner than the aluminum and does break through into the timing cover area as shown in the photos. That area has to be epoxied up.
Would I recommending doing this now, NO. I can sell you an iron LS Next block for at least a grand less. That casting is much thicker and stronger than the factory iron blocks and has priority main oiling if that matters for your application.

That still looks so good but yeah I'm seeing it's not worth it. That's for the reasponses. Ls stuff is getting easier to get nowadays then when I had gotten the ly6. Just today someone local posted a complete and fresh ls3 shortblock on Craigslist for 1800. Can't really beat that.
