Default 2010 l96

New to this site. I have a chance to get a 2010 L96 for free (bad head gasket). I want to make a stroker to put in my s10. Is this block basically the same as all the 6.0 engines. I know it has VVT, didn't know if that had anything to do with the block.

It is a Gen IV engine, which means it is setup for VVT and DOD, whether or not either is used.
That being said, you are getting a free engine because of a bad HEAD GASKET????
Are you SURE there is nothing else wrong with it?? The owner must be either a good friend or really ignorant. A head gasket is an easy fix, and anyone who knows ANYTHING about engines would know that.

I work at a salvage yard. Sombody junked a 2010 chevy short bus. I had it running it sounded good ( no knocks) the only thing it was pushing antifreeze out the exhaust. If I pull it on my own time I can get it for free. I'm new to really looking into the 6.o engines, I am just wondering if this would be a good start to build one. Should I look for an older one. What would be a good one with good factory heads to get other than a Camaro or Vette ( They're like finding a needle in haystack).

No, being a Gen IV puts you in a better spot, with better bottom end parts. If it's an LY6, it should have rectangular port, LS3-style heads on it. A cam ALONE will give it a TON of power!
If you can get the tranny it came with it is a good one, a 4L80-style one.
I would think it would be a good starting point for a project!
