Exclamation DoD delete question

If I'm using this cam GM Camshaft - 12625437 can I use my factory cam gear or do I need to order a new one if so can someone point me to the right one? I have been beating my head against a wall trying to figure this out and can't find answers anywhere.

I guess I should add that it's a 2007 sierra 5.3 if that matters at all

That is a stock replacement Gen III 5.3 cam, which uses 3 bolts to hold the cam sprocket to it. If you are doing a DOD delete it means you have a Gen IV engine, which uses one bolt for the cam sprocket. So you will need a new three-bolt sprocket. The same one was used for all Gen III LS engines from 1997 thru around 2007.

The cam I posted is a single bolt it just has VVT but I'm not sure if the sprocket needs to be different or if the factory one mates up to it without issues.

If both your engine and the replacement cam are single bolt w/ VVT, then just reuse what you have. If one is NOT VVT, then you need a different sprocket.
Please state EXACTLY what your engine is, whether or not it has DOD and/or VVT, as the part# you give for the cam shows it to be a replacement for an EARLY non-VVT 5.3L truck engine from 2000 to 2007.

I believe my truck is non VVT but I am unsure as the truck is in the shop and I am at work. So I guess my next question would be do you have the part number for the sprocket that has variable valve timing and the one without?

I would first have to know whether your engine is Gen III or IV. Gen III used all 3-bolt cam sprockets, none have VVT/DOD. In 2007 both Gen III and IV were still available.

The cam you mention above is for a Gen III engine. I looked it up. If someone said it was a single bolt VVT cam they are wrong. If you saw it and is as stated then the part # is wrong. So which is it? Without the facts we can go no further.

It will work but it's not a VVT cam as you said above. You will need a 4x 3-hole sprocket to make it work. Get ahold of WS6store.com and they will get you what you need at better prices than Summit, plus better service.

A 3 hole sprocket will mate up with the single bolt cam?

The GM #12625437 cam is a Gen4 4.8 single bolt cam. It is identical to your cam minus AFM/DOD, so you can use your stock single bolt cam gear.

It looks like a source was wrong, and I apologize! The number above IS a single bolt, Gen IV non-DOD cam. It will bolt right into your truck engine. Use your present sprocket and bolt if it is VVT. Is your engine VVT?
