Default Spark plug recommendation

Hello all,

I’m getting closer to getting my swap motor all toghether and thrown into my truck.

I’m unsure if I should run stock plugs or upgrade them now since I’ll be ordering all my tune up parts soon.

Need more info. Doing track days or short trip city driving?

You can use the stock heat 5 plug to do daily driving and get on it from time to time with the extra power, but you would probably be better served with a step colder plug 6. If your are going to be hitting a road course then you'll need more of an 8.

Stock plugs have small tips and are projector plugs, so not good for hard use or nitrous. NGK 4554 R5671A-8 is their race plug so no sharp spots and not a projector. These work well for the hard use. It's also a gasket seat over the taper seat.

If you want to spray 600HP of nitrous then go with the short ground strap Autolite AP3933 plugs.

The trucks going to a driver. Mostly driving around the street terrorizing Prius owners! Lol I will be going to the track and running it seeing when I can do. I do not plan on running shots and really just want a stout NA motor.

CR should be about 10.7:1

Thanks CRF for the response.

Aww.. don't pick on poor, defenseless Prius's. Go after the big game. Corollas, Sentras.... etc.

Top spark plugs are ZR1 OEM AC Delco 41-104 favorite with LS racers.

AC Delco 41-110 is one range hotter for N-A cars.

Above are all Iridium

I always believed GM did a great job getting all the right equipment to work well with these motors. Good recommendation and one I honestly didn’t even think of Camster. Thank you.

TR6IX would be the equal to the GM plug. I agree GM does a lot of research, but NGK is the stock spark plug in more cars than any other plug. They are just spark plugs and you have to match them to your needs and motor. Stock motor gets stock plugs and then heat range does down as you build more heat in the cylinder to prevent detonation. Even a stock motor ran in a 24 hour race would be best with a colder plug.

You'll be fine with 6 heat range. If your plugs are easy to get at and you like working on your stuff then you can go with a V power and reduce the small parts to get hot. If you want to drive worry free for a few years run in Iridium plug.

Don't gap Iridium plugs as they have a coating on the ground strap to help them last as long as the tip. V-power plugs will color fast and a great for reading on drag strip pulls NA or not.
