Default Wrong cam gear in LS2?

I picked up a 2006 Trailblazer SS for a future engine swap that had a recent rebuild (zero miles). The truck runs but has a hard start and throws a cam positioning sensor code. As part of the rebuild he did install a new cam and timing chain.

I inspected through the cam sensor hole and it looks like a JP Performance gear set was installed.

Appears to look like the pic below. Not sure how the sensor will ever read it without it being the lobed cam gear? Can I just change the cam gear to the 12586481? Do I have options to make it run correct. Thanks

Do you happen to know which stator is on the crank? What color is the crank sensor plug?
If the cam sensor is on the timing cover and the top timing set is what you saw, it IS the wrong one for sure! That one is for engines with the rear cam sensor.

Same thing happened to me with my G8. I ASSumed the vendor gave me the correct cam gear since he knew what I was ordering it for so I didn't even much look at it. I chased the problem forever before I decided to change the cam gear because it was the only thing left, even though I doubted that was the problem. When I pulled the front cover there sat the 1x cam gear. Frustrating but it was my fault and I'm just glad it starts right now.

yea if u have a ls2 u will need the 4x cam gear or a 1x cam gear.

The 4x u posted above is used for converting over to an aftermarket 3 bolt cam. This is what I used in mine without any issues

The ls2 came in both 24tooth and 58tooth reluctors. The 2006 u have shoud be a 24. I have a 2007 and its a 58. Look at your (crank sensor) to know for sure which u have.
A black sensor will be a 24 and grey is 58. If its a 24 tooth it will need a 3 bolt 1x gear.

Great info, thanks. I will check out the sensor and post a pic. The previous owner mentioned putting in a corvette cam in it but it looks like I will have to open it up before I order anything up to be sure.

Thanks

I just checked and I have a black sensor. A definite pain to get to under there.

Looks like am after a 24 tooth x1 timing setup.

Thanks again

I love how people refer to cams as a "Corvette" cam as a ruse to jack the price of an engine. Then you have to wonder WHICH cam he means. LS1, LS6, LS2, LS3? etc., etc.

So I had a chance to get the cover off to confirm what was installed. I attached a crappy picture but it essentially proves I have the wrong gear.

Just wondering if there is something I am missing on the inter-changeability of any new gear with chain that was installed. Any reason I cant just swap in a new stock 1x gear? I am assuming that the chain is JP Performance as well (new setup as mentioned by the previous owner)
