Default Another lifter thread.... Needing lifters, possibly link bars

I'm currently building a LS3 for my Trans Am. Stock block, new gm crank, billet 24x reluctor, Callies compstar rods with arp2000 bolts, wiseco 4.070" pistons, and arp main studs. My block had a damaged lifter bore from a lifter that come apart. The shop cleaned the bore up to remove any material sticking out and honed it and the other bores also. They have repaired many that way and never had any issues so I trust their word on it.

He did recommend that I use a good link bar lifter to prevent any lifter issues in the future. I've always been afraid of a lifter turning and wiping out my cam and anything else. So with that said I'm looking for some good link bar lifters. I've spent alot on this build so far so why cheap out now. My plans are to run it n/a with some spray this year and next year run a LSA blower setup on it.

What do you guys suggest. Johnson 2116? I've been reading about the Johnson lifters and alot of guys run them I just don't know what would be the best for my setup.

Engine specs for now.....
LS3 6.2L
forged rod/pistons
10.7ish:1 compression
ARP main and head studs
821 heads with BTR .660 springs titanium retainers, stock rockers with bronze trunion upgrade
rod mod ls3 intake manifold 92mm throttle body
N/A cam, 235/24x .62x .61x lift 112+4

Next years build
Same as above except...
LS9 head gaskets for decrease compression to around 10.4-5:1
LSA blower setup with around 14-15lbs boost.
Twin pump setup possibly on e85 with 1300cc injectors.

I really don't see me going above 7000rpm n/a and probably the same for the blower. Just looking for a good quality lifter.

I'd call cam motion. They have a pretty broad range of lifter qualities and prices. Hard to argue against Johnson, but you pay for them. FWIW, look into the dedicated axle oiling option for reliability

Default RHS "T" Bar Lifter Case

Hi Ernie, the WORST set of LS lifters, the WORST Roller Lifters I EVER BOUGHT cam for COMPCAM Cams.

This was a RHS 482 Off Road race engine 22K+ in cost.
My LUCK was great as this happened when the race was finished with just cam lobe damage.
The problem was CAUSED by the CHEAP China bolts they use to connect the link bar to the lifter body.
NO WARRANTY was provided, NO replacement provided, just a smoke/mirror job.
I have these in HAND to this day if one wants to examine the items.
My observation was that more than 1/2 of the lifters where about to fail.

I called my friend Ron Shaver, he stated that he too was aware of the same problem AND could repair the lifter set.
This was NOT done as I wanted the evidence (poor design) for FUTURE cases.

THUS a LS "T" bar lifter should have a TOP GRADE RIVET to connect the body/link bar.

I bought the new set from Ron Shaver

Lance,

What brand/part number did you end up buying? I too am interested in knowing what everyone thinks a good option for hydraulic lifters is these days.

I don't subscribe to the more it costs, the better it is theory. While sometimes this is true, I think each situation needs to be evaluated.

Thanks,

In our experience your type of application should work fine with a LS2 tray and a GOOD quality drop-in lifter if price is a concern, however I would still recommend something like the Johnson 2110R for this. We use them A LOT in our builds up to 7,000 RPM with excellent results. However you really can't go wrong with a good linkbar either if you can work with the higher price. We sell the Johnson standard 2116LSR tiebar kits for $579 or the upgraded axle-oiling 2126LSR ones for $749 on our site.

Alright, I think I've decided to go with the Johnson 2116 linkbar lifters. I've thought about the 2110 lifters and trays but I think I'd feel better with the link bar version.

Now the question is should I get the 2116LSR or the ST2116LSR. The ST2116LSR are the short travel lifters. Any thoughts on this?
