First time engine build. LS3 I’m new to the ls1tech and this is my first engine build from the ground up. I just received my ls3 block from jegs and was wondering if I needed any machine work done to the block or just a finish hone in the cylinders? It’s going to be a mostly stock build.

no machining necessary per se, unless you are going to be building a stroker, just a finish hone would do. I would however reccomend just have someone go ahead and line hone the crank/cam journal. It’s to easy not to do while you just have a bare block. With a balanced rotating assembly you can have a very high revving motor.

For what it's worth I just picked up my new LS3 block from the machine shop and the only did they did was the final hone in the cylinders. I had them check everything on the block and it was all in spec.
