Oil smells like gasoline
The shop that tuned and broke in my motor returned the car to me today. I changed the oil and it had a strong smell of gasoline. Did the shop screw up the break in. I haven't cut open the oil filter yet, but I'm going to. I drained the oil hot, and it had a watery consistency
Oil on the left is what came out of the pan. Oil on the right is fresh Joe Gibbs breakin 5w30

Give it a little time before you take any drastic measures. Break in oil will smell different simply because of all the assembly lube that is used when building a new engine.
My fresh LS3 I built smelled like crap, but I was running 15w40 Rotella as break in oil and it has it's own nasty smell.
Even after the 1st oil change to Mobil 1 10w30, there is still some of the smell from the old oil.
If your engine is broke in well, the oil will stay cleaner longer. Combustion gasses that get past the rings are usually what turns oil darker the fastest. If it stays nice and clean for a little while after changing it, you on the right track.
