Default TFS 30602001 Cam

I put this in my gen4 5.3. I thought I didn’t need to change anything to run this but after it was installed I see it recommended springs updated. I was reading about LS6 Springs and summits site recommends these. I see TFS has their dual springs for probably 50 more. Is this all I need to change? I’ll buy the TFS springs but it also recommends buying a adjustable push rod to check.. it should be simple I would think. Yes you do or no you don’t for a stock setup.
Wanted to buy the springs on eBay since there is a 15% discount till 10 tonite.. advice please. I’m not up on this stuff. Thanks. Jim

Didn't you check the lift specs before you installed it? Why did you assume no other changes would be needed? LS6 springs will not be quite enough for the lift on this cam. A good set of beehive springs will be enough with a lift spec of about .600. Once you put a different cam in it no longer is a stock setup. Too many assumptions going on here.

Nope. Never did this before. Wanted to get rid of the DOD cam and this was recommended. I read where some just put this in their stock truck and was good to go. Don’t really know much about this. Just looking for some help. Not racing.. just building a hot rod cruiser.
Ps. No big hurry on this. It won’t run for a long time. Just trying to save a little here and there. I appreciate any good advice.

I just edited my post. Please re-read it as I changed the spring recommendation. Where did you read this cam would be OK with stock springs?

Pac makes some nice drop in #1218 beehives at .600 lift. Cost around $135 a set. Just used some on a cam swap the other day.

didn’t read it. Saw some YouTube vids with guy running his after install. Listened to his statements. An engine builder that is building my boys 6.0 turbo engine was the guy that recommended the cam.Actually he he said the next bigger one. Lol. I read the TFS spec sheet after I put it together.. bad move I know. Had old friend come by and he was a GM mechanic his whole life so I asked if he would give me a hand assembling it. i never put a cam in anything.. I am very mechanically capable. Machining for 30+ years .

You need PAC 1218 springs and a set of 7.400 hardened pushrods. DONT drive your truck until you put springs in it. or you're going to break it.

see this is what I mean. I never heard about changing pushrods for this. I won’t be starting it for a while. I need to do my harness and computer flashed to delete the vats. Is there anything else?

Those springs have a high seat pressure and can bend your stock Push rods.

The usual pushrod length is 7.400. If u start it up and it has a lil bit of valvetrain noise u might need something longer like a 7.425 Always best to measure to be certain. The stock pushrods are a hair less than 7.400

The LS6 springs work at .560 lift (the 2002-04 LS6 cam was .555 from the factory), but the TFS-918-16 .610 lift beehives would be a better option. Added spring pressure will extend your rpm range. .
