Default LSX B15, tips for first LS engine

Hey guys, I have an LSX B15 376 arriving today. Received an awesome deal on it (well under the typical list price you see online). It's my first LS build and I was looking for any tips/advice on the install

I have an Improved Racing F body oil pan with baffle kit and purchased their oil pump pickup billet hold down

Starting with the oil pan/oil pump pickup assembly, are there any tips anyone could provide for install? I figured it should be pretty straight forward.

Anything else on these LSX block motors that should be checked/double checked, quirky areas for oil sealing or what not? This is my first LS motor and I'm looking forward to getting to know them (I know, late to the game...spent a bit too much time with Gen 2 stuff LOL)

Thanks in advance!

Just bolt it all together. Don't over torque the oil pump pick up tube. Those bolts are tiny and will strip easily.

When installing the oil pan, remember to add a little shmoo at the 4 locations where the block, front/rear covers intersect with the pan.

Oil pan alignment at the rear is easily overlooked. Us a long straightedge to align pan to rear of block, or an old bellhousing if you have one laying around.

Thanks for both of your replies!

Oil pan alignment was actually something I was wondering about. I was going to bolt it up yesterday, did a lot of research on the alignment but decided to take on a welding side job instead. Going back at it today.

Unfortunately I don't have the transmission here to use the bell housing for alignment. Here's what I was wondering though. I'm using an SBC/Gen 2 transmission (built 96 4l60e). I don't think it has the provisions in the bellhousing for the oil pan. Will alignment be as critical? I'll still do my best, but I figured without those bolts being used it wouldn't have to be perfect.

Alignment IS critical if you don't want leaks. As Che70velle said, just use a straightedge along the back of the block and align the back of the pan to it. It's that simple
