Cam removal without removing balancer (hypothetical) Really silly hypothetical scenario, but imagine having the oil pan removed, and front cover bolts removed - can the timing cover be rotated around the crank 180 degrees so that there's access to the timing gear and thus permitting the ability to slide the cam out?
Or does the timing cover get in the way no matter what position you rotate it?

It could be done (for reasons that remain a mystery to me, the geniuses at GM decided to NOT use dowel pins to locate the front and rear covers... Those could have saved a lot of trouble for a lot of people over the years.), but resealing it would be a pain in the ***.
