I only mentioned it because I ran a double roller in my LS1 way back when I first did a cam in my Firebird in '07. Was a hassle to deal with, but it still worked out well.
The first ones on the Gen IV engines have an apparent 100% failure rate. Back then the LS2 block was the only choice. Then it was revised and there was more material added to the pivot point to reinforce it. Was better but they still broke. Along came the Gen V. Cloyes was responsible for the next version. As Formula boat mentioned it’s a black version, likely less fragile. It’s also reinforced even more this time. Now this tensioner is really only for the single bolt cam gears. Single bolt gears use a gear with different teeth to make less noise. These looser teeth cause more slack on the the chain. This is the reason GM stopped using the
LS2 block and went to the tensioner. So cam swaps with a 3 bolt cam you should use the LS2 block. If you do an LS3 cam swap you want the newest Cloyes tensioner, 95977. $15.16 RA.
This is the reinforced tensioner. Way more material than the old designs.
