. Again,I wasnt knocking a cathedral head on your combination but its facts, with a 3000-3600 converter it is the best choice.

for a car who wants to run and isnt scared of a race converter, square port is the way to go. Ls3 style or a ls7 will get it done on that bore and stroke.

I wasn't referring to anyone actually.
All good.

I did feel they were lazy, but i now suspect every criticism I had was unfair. Very possible my sniper criticisms fall into this category also. The bottom end was in really bad shape, so it's almost unfair to draw any conclusions from my old build. It may well be that I was fighting a very unusual amount of internal resistance. In retrospect, I have gone from being pissed at 580 hp to being amazed it made 580. Well, 577. But still, y'all get the point. Chevelle has seen the damage and he can attest to what we suspect may have been preexisting vs what I caused via improper set up.

I do still think that aftermarket heads are the way to go over ported stock, but I want to be clear, I'm not intentionally railing against LPE in any way. it would be unfair to do so.

You have a good point there.
Power was definitely low too but at least now you know what is wrong.
That pushrod issue you had kind of worked out to be a blessing in a way because you would not have known the condition of the bottom end otherwise and something worse may have happened.
And now you are starting from scratch so everything will be working properly.

Sometimes things happen for a reason.
If you didn't make an error think of the consequences: Your block may have been damaged beyond repair.
These oil pressure issues motivated me to do to start again with a better set of heads.
This has been in my mind for years but just never did it till now.
The timing is pretty cool how the two of us ended up building a new engine and getting our top ends from mamo in the same time frame.

Now that you mentioned it, I found out today I had to get custom pistons ordered due to the cathedral 15 degree heads.
CP only have the 4.155 version to suit 12 degree heads on the shelf.
Lucky for me the turn around time is quick and they will arrive next week.
I will get my builder to send a photo through to me so I can post it here.
I also found out I will need different injectors for that FAST intake.
I need injectors with a longer body and the intake also comes with a hardware spacer kit of some kind from Tony too.
I expect the camshaft and rockers to arrive in about 3 weeks and the heads most likely in around 6 weeks or so.
Block is going to machine shop also next week along with my crank and rods and pistons for machining and balancing.

Are you using CP to build new custom pistons? What ring package are you using?

Yes i am using cp to build these pistons.
They have a very quick turn around time too.
Not sure on the ring package. From what i know it usually comes with the kit. Steel rings from what i see in their catalogue.
Is there anything you recommend?

When having custom pistons made, the options are usually wide open. My recommendation is to always run the lightest ring package you can get away with. Lots of variables. You should consult your builder as far as what to do with that.

https://store.custombuiltmotors.com/...pacer-kit.html

Injector spacers could save you money. Just make sure the spacer is on the top side and not the injector tip side.

Do you plan on running an LS1 style injector then? Fuel Injector Clinic makes them up to 2000cc and they do get pricey.

Apparently i need to run an ls2 style injector. A 1000c is enough and is what i have now.
I was told I need spacers/longer bolts between the fuel rail mounting tab and the intake itself.
So we will see what happens.

I'm running a FAST with LS2 injectors and I did not use the fuel injector spacers that come with the intake. I just bought some spacers from Home Depot and used them to raise the fuel rail up from the intake.
