I’ve torn down engines that haven’t ran in years, and the lifters get oil on the bench where they lay. Soaking a lifter in oil does get oil into the bearings, just like the pressurized oil in the lifter galleries forces it in while running, just not nearly as fast.
You saying don’t soak lifters as a general statement, while some lifter manufactures require it, is bad advice. No matter what you personally do or how you feel about it. Especially as a vendor. Lots of folks see a vendor say something and it’s gospel to them. Just being honest.
I see nothing wrong with the process across the board unless a lifter manufacturer specifically says not to do it in their instructions. Best advice on the subject here is to follow the lifter manufactures advice.
Youre saying IN. Im saying ON. Different things. There is also a difference in being caught in a low spot or machined channel vs over the entire part.
Gravity will make the oil flow down unless it is trapped or channeled.

I pre-soaked new Delphi lifters in oil. Checked zero-lash right after heads were installed, then checked again after running them for almost 200 miles, there was only about .001 difference, which was surprising I thought there would be more. I got no instructions with the lifters (from BTR), figured you can never have too much oil coating on parts. Never thought about them maybe being filled with "cosmoline" though whatever that is.

Would be nice to have a pic of those JH lifters to see the oil channel issue.

Soaking lifters in oil will only guarantee oil on the inside. Once you put them in the bore, quite a bit is either scraped off or gravity does its job. What youre looking for there is fluid film and oil wont give you that vs any decent assy lube.
But then again you cant put assy lube on a lifter with oil all over it also.

I soaked my hylift johnsons. Guess I'm doomed. Maybe I should pull the heads off tonight and dry them out and start over? Ive only got 1500 or so miles on the engine so I guess I should do it right now before its tto late?

SMH...LOLOLOLOL whatever.

I just about fell out of my chair laughing btw.

I wish I would have taken a pic of mine. However, I asked a couple people I trust about what lifters to run, one guy I asked, I'd put money on it that hes built more engines than the techws6 guy, told me to run the hylift johnsons without me even asking specifically. He actually brought it up and said he uses them when they are having a ls7 lifter shortage....and never has had an issue. Said they are a us made quality lifter. They are quieter then my factory lifters too. but whatever. everyone has their own opinion.
