Big Daddy's 468

Hi gents,
I've made lots of phone calls and sent lot of messages to lots of people this week but the new 468 build is now finalized. My new goal for the HAPPY HOOKER will be 9.40's and with that being said I realize there are some things that could be done differently for more power but this is not a max effort build and don't wanna spend anymore money than I already have this season, so here's what it's gonna looks like:

Shortblock: HPR 468 (4.185 bore x 4.250 stroke), gen iv block, compression ratio will fall around 13.25 to 1.
Heads = Tony Mamo MMS265 LS7, Ferrea hollow stem intake valves, Manley 221421 valve springs and titanium retainers.
Intake = Performance Design Carbon PTR
Camshaft: Tony Mamo solid roller spec, .720/.717 lift, 260 / 274 duration on a 113 + 3
Pushrods = Trend 3/8, .135 wall.
Rocker arms = MMS Yella Terra 1.8 10mm.
Lifters = Isky Solid Roller.
Pan/Windage tray = Holley pan and mast stroker windage tray.
Throttlebody: 105mm Holley
Headers = 2" primary long tube.
Injectors: FIC 85 pound.
Fuel = E85.
Alternator = Mechman 250amp.
Transmission : FTI powerglide with 1.80 first gear.
Stall: FTI 8" to be determined this week but I'm guessing they will spec it around 5500.
Rear gears = I will start with a 4.10 and see what the rpm's look like once I start making some passes.
Vehicle = 1997 S-10 @ about 3000 pounds with driver.

I like your plan and choice of Heads!
Good Luck

I'd like to see what some Frankenstein 710 heads would do on a 468. Things are putting down big numbers.

Nice combo! Gonna be a runner for sure

spanks13 Aug 8, 2020 10:21 PM

Thought you’d go a bit more aggressive, but really nice parts and will run great!

Out of $$$$$.....lol

BigDaddy97 Aug 9, 2020 07:37 PM

Just got off the phone with Mamo. I'm gonna send the cbm adapters to him so he can port match the adapters to the heads and get the LOD intake fully mamofied. He said he's been dying to get his hands on one :)

Ok so NOW you are out of $$$$

I forecast more better wheelies in your future! Stay in it this time and take your chances with some paint on the door, lol.

BigDaddy97 Aug 10, 2020 05:45 AM

Lol......dropped the rear gear, dropped the trans ratio, got travel limiters and adjustable shocks set on full tight for that first pass.

BigDaddy97 Aug 10, 2020 01:30 PM

I just called FTI with new engine specs to get a suggestion on a stall speed. They recommended 6700......Geezus!

Darth_V8r Aug 10, 2020 01:45 PM

Just do a CV transmission at that point

Truck gunna act like its spoolin up...N/A stylee

hopefully see my motor on the engine dyno this week and will know some numbers. just waiting on LME, there’s only be one other build that Thompson did in the 44X ci range to compare to.

Looking forward to what this combination does with Tony's heads and the 468 shortblock. I'm almost certain at least one other HPR 468 ran the MMS 265 heads as well a year or more ago.

I have those heads on my 434 shortblock. If I ever go into it again I want to just to the 468 as well. Same problem though: feeding it. On the engine dyno we tried 2 different intakes: a 4150 LS7 Super Victor and a 4500 Mast LS7. The were similar until the upper RPM where the Mast just kept pulling and pulling.

When I installed the engine, unfortunately neither of those would fit for me, so I went with a set of the LS3 to LS7 adapters like you are going to use along with a ported 4150 LS3 Victor Jr. The engine still did great pulling 617 rwhp with that combination (I saw ~720 on the engine dyno). I'm certain I'm choked a bit between intake and exhaust. Tony will likely be surprised, but the adapters were a very good fit to the intake port opening on his heads already. I'm sure he can smooth out the overall transition, but it may not take a lot.

Good luck!

The LOD X1 intake peaked at 7700 on my 447. My thoughts are that with the large plenum and short runners it can feed the 468, but I do expect it to peak several hundred rpm less than the 447 and that's fine by me. I also expect my dyno numbers to look very low given that I will be on a 8" 6000 rpm stall. There is no engine dyno around here close and a chassis dyno is just a tuning tool. My test will be at the dragstrip:)

That is my guess. That longer stroke will pull the leak down to about 7200. Still with all that added torque I think you will live what this thing does.

7200 is right where I wanna be.

Update: The 447 was put back together at a reputable local machine shop and will be ready for pickup next week. The HPR 468 and MMS LS7 heads should ship out the following week. I'm gonna put the 468 in the S10 and then look around for something next winter to put the 447 in :)
