Default Cam expectations

Just curious what the forum consensus is on this cam grind. It's going in my 63 Chevy II wagon sbe ls2/t56 with a 3.90 rear. I'll be using a Fast 102 with a ported stock LS2 throttle body.

May have too much dynamic compression there - I calculated 9 to 1 dynamic (pump gas you want 8.5). The intake valve closes at 72 (47+25) degrees which is a little early for that compression you like to see 78-80 at 12 to 1. That being said I think the cam would work Great on an engine of that size. It will have a nice lope with not too much overlap - 7 degrees (231+238)/2 - (114 * 2) ---- 235 -228 = 7. I run 12 to 1 on my 454 and it just makes it on pump gas with 21 degrees of timing - I close at like 79 degrees (8.45 dynamic). I was using the wallace racing calculators for this. Some people poo-poo the dynamic compression ratio but I am just pointing it out here and it was fairly accurate on mine. I run a 246/258 298/310 on a 114. My engine is bigger (6.0 vs 7.4 liter) so the cam needs to be bigger too. That cam would be way too big for the 6.0 liter on a street car. I like your 3.90 gears that will help. I like the cam you just may need to look into this compression thing if you are a pump gas guy especially if you only have 91 in your area.

93 octane is plentiful here and I'll be mindful of the quench. I'll be using a .036 Cometic head gasket. In the event of a road trip I'll keep stocked up on octane booster.

Not yet Ryan, hopefully sooner than later. I'm a bit intimidated by the Johnson limited travel lifters setup. Had a really smart guy here tell me I may end up with 8-10 different length pushrods, ugh.

I have Johnson lifters just measures for them two weeks ago and I had 4 different sizes. That’s due to my block more then anything. I had all the same length intakes on one side and 5 thousands shorter intake pushrods on the other side of my engine. My block needed to be decked a little more on one side then the other to perfectly square it up. That’s where the 5 thousands difference in length from side to side comes from. The same was for the exhaust pushrods. One length on the one side a little shorter on the other side of the engine that was decked more. I don’t think it has to do with the lifters more of the head/block and valve in head locations. Johnsons makes a great lifter.

Makes me curious about the Comp Cams adjustable pushrods. Anyone use them? I used them in hot rod Harley's for years and they have way worse valve train geometry than a LS and they worked just fine.

They are expensive, but look promising. Would be a super quick way for you to get this thing buttoned up, vs having to measure, order, wait on a vendor, then wait for FedEx to botch the delivery, etc. I’ve been waiting for someone here to use the Comp pushrods and report back with info/data. I say go for it.

My MMS 223 heads ended up at 61.5 cc's. Tony put in bigger hollow stem intake valves. Will be running a MMS ported Fast 102 intake with a ported silver blade ls2 throttle body. Yella Terra 1.8 ratio roller rockers with the Johnson limited travel axle oiling lifters. Any guesses on hp and torque given a proper tune? T56 with a 3.90 rear. Exhaust may be my limiting factor. Headers are 1 5/8" primarys with 2 1/2" through Borla ProXS mufflers.
