Basic oil change question Hi I have the E-Rod LS3 in my 77 Trans Am. I’m also running the 4th gen f body oil pan which is 5.5 quarts capacity. I assume that I should be running 5.5 quarts of oil?
I know the 2013 Camaro LS3 it’s based on runs 8 quarts but the oil pan is also 8 quarts.
Just wanted to double check as I’ve never done an engine swap before. Thanks!

The pan holds [whatever], then the filter, cooler, lines, etc. hold however much more.
An engine w a 5½ qt pan is probably gonna want 6¼ qt or so with no cooler; probably another qt with a typical stock-ish cooler & lines.

I do see that for the 2000 Z28 GM they do also state 5.5 quarts in the owner’s manual.

Thanks! I’m running an ls swap specific Dewitts Radiator/fan combo but no oil cooler beyond the radiator.
