Default link bar lifters with lifter trays

I know the title doesnt make sense. I have a ls3 with link bar solid lifters. The pushrods are hard to line up on top the lifter without trays to guide them in. My question is, has anyone modified the lifter trays to clear the link bar lifters and still use the top of the tray to keep the pushrod lined up while installing. Engine has ported 243's and you have to hold the tip of the pushrod with your fingertips to get them in. its a biatch to get them straight without fear of dropping them into the block if I miss the lifter.

A flaslight and a pen magnet would be my recomendation to ensure the pushrod is sitting on the solid lifter properly.

They can fall onto the casting for the lifter bores but you should still be able to get it with your pen magnet. I've found that using the pen magnet to hold the PR while I guide it down onto the lifter to be helpful. If the engine was on the engine stand there would be zero issues with doing this. GLWB

I also agree with the pen magnet and flashlight. It’s also helpful when measuring pushrod length to use the same combo. I can’t imagine using trays with link bars though - that’s part of the plus for using the bars so as to ditch the trays.
