L92 Block Swap
I have a new L92 that I got very cheap since it was dropped on delivery and the starter mount broke off the block. So now, I need to essentially swap everything from the broken block to a new one and I have a few questions.
First, is this a bad idea? I was thinking of just buying a new GM block and making the swap? Since I am moving the crank and rods, I would assume I don't need to worry about those matching up. Should I be worried about moving the crank to the new block and just using the new bearings that are already in the old block? What about using the same rod bolts? Since the older motor has never even been started, I would assume rod bolts would be ok to reuse. What about head bolts?
Also, while I am there and since it will be apart, I am thinking it is better just to swap the cam out to a better one and get rid of the VVT. But, what about using the same lifters on the new cam? Again, this engine has never run, so everything is brand new.
I appreciate any input and advice.
