Default Tsp tsunami cam

What’s up, new to the website but im in the market for a cam for a 08 5.3 currently fbo with a built 4l60 trans and 3200 stock heads and manifold. I was looking into the tsp tsunami cam, but I’ve heard a lot about it like people saying the valve to piston clearance will be a problem or that the cam in general will be too big. Any help or tips on what I should do or what other cam I should go with?

Ya might wanna read up on that cam......

25-TSPTsunamiV2 TSP Tsunami V2 Camshaft (texas-speed.com)

That's more cam than what I have in my LS3......

I'd be more inclined to go with 25-TSPL83TR-3 TSP 5.3L L83TR-3 Camshaft (texas-speed.com).

But hey, your car, your choice.

KW, the 08 5.3 the OP has is Gen IV. The cam you mention above is for the L83 GenV 5.3. Different animal.

I had a 5.3 with TSP 2.5 5.3 heads and a TSP 224r cam TBSS intake with a 4l60 and 3200 FTI converter. It did okay for a street cruiser, real close to 340rwhp 320 rwtq ran it up to 6500 rpms.
(setting in my garage waiting on a project now)

Suggestions on a cam without knowing the intended use, type and weight of vehicle, engine specs is kinda silly. I know there are some people here that can spec you a good cam if you provide more information.

Please see tsunami-camshaft where Texas Speed talks about the cam in a 5.3 and suggests a different cam.

As mentioned by others, folks can make better suggestions with more information on car/truck like weight, gear, tire and desired use etc.

FWIW - I think in a 5.3 the Tsunami cam (235/240 111, with ~16 degrees of overlap) is a mismatch for your 3,200 stall converter. Per TSP's website "With the Tsunami camshaft we typically recommend the customer have at least a 3600-rpm stall converter for automatic cars."

I think the 5.3 will be soft and mushy under ~4,000+ rpm with that cam. It might finally wake up around ~5,500 rpm in a 5.3. I'd consider a different stall or a different cam.

If the vehicle is like very light, like a Miata etc then it's possible a big fat cam can work out in a 5.3 LS. So much depends on the various details.

BTR's new Hot Rod cam (217/23x) maybe worth a look. Makes more power overall than a Sloppy Stage 2 (228/230) and has almost as much low end as a Truck Norris (212/22x) cam.
