Default Lifters

Good evening everyone! Unfortunately I had a morel 7717 lifter fail and am in the process of rebuilding. The engine is an LS3, ported heads and 11:1 compression. Looking for lifter suggestions. Genuine LS7 lifters or make the just to tie bars? What brand? Thank you.

I’d get a tie bar lifter at minimum. I’m using Johnson 2116LSR no problems so far.

I looked at switching to tie bars, but it seems like the field is 50/50 on whether they are an improvement or not. My research has made indecision increase

I have had pretty good luck with LS7 lifters, even though I am pushing their design envelope pretty hard. I'm running dual springs with 160lb seat, and 420-425lbs at max lift. They seem fine, except on the first cold start of the day. Smooth sounding at cold, 850rpm idle, but increase revs to 2,000, and it sounds like a lifter has collapsed. It goes away after a minute or two, and doesn't do it the rest of the day. Tried 2 sets of lifters, same result, so I'm thinking one or two bleed down. Don't think it's a piston slap, as they usually make a racket at any cold start rpm, and stop before a minute or two has transpired. My cam is only about .605" lift, though, 232/250 duration, on a 112° LSA. But I'm pushing my luck. I had an overrev several years back, with a .638"/.646" lift, 238°/242° cam, and a small piece of 1 lifter broke off, one side of the encapsulated area around the roller wheel. There is no margin for error when you're running that much beyond their design criteria, which is probably 110lbs on the seat, and 335-350lbs@max lift. I'd probably be smart to change to tie bars and Johnsons or Morels. Probably not their "drop-in", budget line either. I've heard ZERO complaints on Johnson, except trying to set lash on their LT lifters.
