Vacuum Pump On New 416 LS3 Build?
Vacuum Pump On New 416 LS3 Build? Have a new 416 that I haven't started up yet as I am not quite done with the project.
I was reading about and would like to install a vacuum pump on this motor. GZ makes some nice ones for these cars it appears.
Would there be any harm in installing it now? Before I break it in?
Or would it be a better idea to start it up and break it in on the PCV system and a catch can, then switch over to the vacuum pump.
I would have thought that the vacuum pump would have aided the engine in seating the rings and getting a good seal achieved there, but I want to make sure before I install it that I'm not mistaken - which I very well may be.

Vacuum pump was worth 20hp on my engine and we broke it in on the dyno without the pump on. Wanted to make sure oil got everywhere it needed to go. Was also told by a rep at total seal not to run it initially as well as it won't let the rings seat naturally.
I don't think it will hurt it either way, but if you don't have the pump before you fire the motor up, then just dump the covers to a can for now and break it in. Then install the pump when the motor is broken in and ready for the dyno.
this seems confusing to me, because what if you are running a true dry sump that is pulling a vacuum on the motor as it cavitates the oil out of the pan? that will obviously need to apply a vacuum to function
