I'm striking out on getting just (1) used piston for my rebuild. Anyone know of a shop that specializes on engine tear downs and might have one good donor piston? One i need is on the left One i need is on the left. That's not good!!
The world at large doesn't give a rat's *** that you're "on a crunch", Karen. Your "crunch" isn't gonna just magically entitle you for one to magically appear because you DEMAND it.
You need it from someone with a used failed motor of the same type.
Prety hard to just "order" that: it comes from an accident of some sort. In your case, could be a crash, or a blowup, or ... something. Kinda like, people want to know, where can they buy a [body part, interior part, transmission, whatever] from a [30-yr-old vehicle]. Well, ... those things come from WRECKED CARS, which means it's kinda hard to "place an order" that to fill it, means that somehow someone has to "place an order" for such a car to be wrecked FOR THEM. Yeah right.
What you need is similar, though maybe not as dramatically obvious. You just have to WAIT YOUR TURN until one appears in the marketplace. It's not as though there's an inexhaustible supply somewhere that some nefarious minions are hoarding and all you have to do is figure out how to release them.
Check with all the shops and junkyards in your area, or not, and be prepared to WAIT. "Crunch" be damned. That isn't how The World works.
Since you decided to be not too much of a dick, I will clarify for you without name calling like you did. I'm not looking for anyone to stop what they're doing and cater to me in any way. I know how supplychain works trust me. I was just simply stating that if I don't find one by the time the machinist needs them I'll buy a new low cost set. Most likely from Summit since they've been a huge help. Hope your keyboard makes you feel like a warrior. I've been a part of many forums. There's always that one guy. I found him!
@Summitracing if I can't find a stock single piston would these be the recommended replacements? Any other recommendations? This is the escalade that I'm building with the torqinator cam you recommended.
I was in a similar position as you with my 6.2 build. I ended up just buying one single new GM piston from rock auto. If you’re in a crunch for time, you can pay extra for next day shipping.
They may fit but are they the exact same is the question? I was wanting to go the more economical path and replace one and really thought the LS community would have a **** ton of these laying around on their benches or shelves. I know I see alot of people upgrading and adding turbos and nitrous. If I do a single replacement I believe it has to be exactly the same but these could be my low cost full (8) replacements I guess. @mikesimpalass That's funny- I did some research before I posted on here add he was the first I called. He had 1 6.2 good piston on the shelf he actually sent me but it is different than mine. It has the concave sides versus the straight. Thanks for the help on the subject man!!!
I do not see a stock L94 piston listed on Rocks website for less than $155 but that is cheaper than anything I found so great tip.. I'll call them monday and ask. The one for $48 doesn't have the valve reliefs. We're getting close though and now I have to decide if I want old pistons and rings in it for $200 or new cast whatever the masses recommends and new rings honed .005 over for <$600 ........Im thinking at $2k investment and its already all the way tore down I should just bite the bullet and bore or hone to next size and put brand new cast pistons and rings back in to her and have 200k miles of fun with the torkinator cam and hopefully my new HP Tuners purchase. Had a different platform tuner for my 12 second GTP but should be fun to learn a new platform.
