LS rebuild kit options

LS rebuild kit options ok im looking to buy a 5.3,6.0.6.2 engine from a junkyard. my question is assuming the engine has high miles what parts should be replaced to freshin it up and be reliable, not looking for more horsepower at the moment. i see rebuild kits that have bearing and rings and pistons for like $500. im not sure why you would need pistons. im thinking if i get a used engine id put rings bearings oil pump in it and valve stem guide seals? what do you all recommend for a freshin up"kit? thanks

Most LS engines go past 200k miles before needing any real attention. Mainly timing chain, possibly oil pump, valve job w/new seals.
There are enough good engines out there to not need to get a very tired one. Try to see the vehicle it comes in to check the odometer.
