I found this video from a reputable machinist and engine builder.

The lifter came about when GM improved the standard LS lifter design.
The LS7 was the first to get it, then all others afterward.
There's no magic to them as they're the standard replacement lifter.
BUT they became known as the "LS7 lifter".
But that isn't the official designation.

Question. As the LS7 lifters have become more expensive (like everything else) what about the lifters like in a 6.2 Silverado engine with non DOD. My current project has a 2012 L92 with non DOD so are those lifters the same as the LS7 lifters?

Basically, all non-DOD lifters since about 07 are LS7. As said, they are now the default LS lifter.

Yes, they probably are. I don't know why but AC Delco and GM puts different part numbers on the exact same part that are used in different vehicles or applications. Marketing and money, I guess. Just make sure you by a name brand that comes in the brand box, the overseas manufacturers have perfected the copy but not the quality and be Leary of bulk sellers.

Like mentioned above, the LS7 lifter was just the part number used in the LS7 at the time. Part numbers change constantly. A part number will change when there is a design change or a manufacturer change. The original LS7 lifter part number is obsolete and has been for years.
We have a saying in the GM parts world, "someone dropped a part on the floor, Part number changed."
Numbers are superceded so often that there are new parts numbers released that the part isn't even being produced yet. I worked in a GM parts dept for 12 years. My boss was so good he could remember 7 digit numbers from the 70's and 80's.He's retired now
All GM numbers now are 8 digits.
