Default Timing chain damper bolt size?

Does anyone know what the bolt size is for the bolts that hold the timing chain damper block to the front of the engine block on an LS2? Better yet, does anyone have a pair of those bolts they don't need and would be will to send my way?

Which damper do you have? Surely not a L79?

Those bolts are the same bolts as the front cover bolts basically. I buy ARP bolts in bulk, and use the same bolt for the front and rear covers, valley plate, oil pan (minus the two rear long ones), the block-style chain damper as your using, etc. I’m fairly sure I use the same bolt for the cam sprocket also…
M8 x 1.25 x 30 or a 34? I can’t remember what I ordered in length…

Sorry, I thought I put that in the original post. I've updated my original post. Talking about the LS2 chain dampener.

As said, it’s the same thread pitch and depth as a front cover bolt, but it does have a 13mm head instead of the 10mm.

Right: the factory bolts are the same as the later style front cover bolts. Not that ones like the earlier ones "won't work" or can't be used; just, the factory used the later ones. They're 8mm std thread (not fine) whatever that is, about 40mm long. The block is a good 20mm thick right there so the length isn't super critical.

Well, if it matters this will be going onto an LS1 block. The later blocks have the holes drilled and tapped but they just didn't put the damper in. Am told the LS2 damper is a drop in fit as long as the block is already drilled and tapped which this one should be as it was built in Feb. 2004, right towards the end of the LS1 run.

But I can pull one of those bolts off my LS2 and go shopping for a similar size bolt so I have them ahead of time for the LS1 build.

Doesn't matter if the holes are there or not. It's extremely eeeeeezzzzy to drill & tap it. No great precision is required. I put one on my LQ9 block that didn't have the holes, if I can do it and not screw it up, it's GOT TO BE eeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzy.

I'm thinking a flange head 10.9 bolt could be found at the local Ace Hardware store. Various lengths are typically in stock.

Probably so... it's not a particularly stressful application though, so just about anything will get it done.

They are M8-1.25x 25mm, 10.9 hardness, flange head.. I was happily surprised that I found those exact bolts at my local Tractor Supply store.

If I'm not too late, I'd use removable Loctite (242) on the 2 bolts, and torque same as front cover bolts (18 lb/ft.?)..
