I've heard of many poorly built 4 inch strokers becoming oil burners and needing rings by ~20,000 to 25,000 miles over the years or even sooner.

I have a correctly built 383 LS1. My friend that did the engine told me to expect a rering refresh between 40,000 to 60,000 miles depending on how much high rpm the motor experienced. I joked I'd coax at least a 100,000 miles out of it. He laughed and said you can try but that's not a realistic expectation.

Currently has 14,000 miles, isn't an oil burner in the sense that my 383 LS1 uses less oil than either of the stock LS1's I've had.

Appreciate the insight. After screwing around with different strokes, rod lengths and comp heights I think I'm just going to KISS and run stock stroke. I don't want to play guinea pig with this build/truck. Maybe the next build when I have another DD and a kid out of the house- 3 years.

thanks for the detailed feedback. i'm putting together a 383 ls1 myself and would really like to eek 50k or so out of it before removal and refresh. sounds like that's reasonable but on the edge of what one could expect.
