Default Update on 400 Mile engine

I pulled the engine out after a bad oil analysis. I pulled it apart and

found this with only 400 miles on the engine. Every bearing has some sort of mark on it but this was the worse one. Crank is fine luckily. What would cause this with so low of miles. Thinking of taking it back to the builder and telling him to fix it but I want to see people's opinions on what could cause this. Thank you

Oil picking up grit from inside the engine and getting thrown into the bearings before getting filtered out?
Just a WAG....

Thanks for the reply, I changed the oil with 150 miles on it and sent the oil sample in at 400 miles. The oil sample came back high in copper, lead and dirt basically. So I guess I just have to eat it then. I'm just glad the crank is ok and only needs bearings.

If a builder assembled the engine, he might not have properly cleaned the block, heads, and other parts prior to assembly.
Whoever the builder is better enjoy eating this one.

Clearance to tight. Bearing blue from overheating. I’m sure the builder would like to see it.

What viscosity oil were you using??

How many passes at the drag strip??

How long was it sitting after build before you started it??

Used Lucas break in oil 20w50. No pass on engine one street hit on only 8 lbs. Bearings clearance was fourth thousands on main and thirty thousand on rods

They did the initial start up a day after it was built. I stayed it at least every two weeks. Do you need to know my setup

I can see you have a built engine with boost. Alot of time and money spent, I feel for you!! Total bummer!!

I hope you get this resolved quickly. The fustration of doing a major project then having it fail - builds us up stronger.

Please keep us updated and give the builder a chance to make it right.

I would recommend not ratting out the builder at this time.

Good Luck!!!

Could you clarify those measurements? 0.004" on mains and 0.003" on rods? Kinda looks to me like that crank had some dirt in its oil passages that it passed along to the rod bearings.
