I've got an LQ4 with LS3 heads, it is cammed, has longtube headers and an edelbrock proflo intake manifold I've noticed a faint tick when the engine is cold or cooled down then started up. It sounds like it has a rhythm and coming from the passenger side which leads me to think it is a lifter. It almost goes away once it has been warmed up and and driven. I need some advice on what to do or what everyones thoughts are. What is a good set of replacements? Should I run it until it gets super loud? I have tried to search for information on here and youtube but I cant seem to find anything that is my exact situation. Any help would be appreciated.
I have attached a photo of the motor with the valve cover off and noticed that it leans backwards (it was previously swapped). Is it possible there is not adequate oil getting to the valve-train towards the front of the car?
Try rislone engine treatment. Its free'd up tons of lifters for me over the years. Really does work, not snake oil. Some are just a lost cause though. I throw 2 qts of rislone in and drive a 100 miles. If that doesn't free it up. You need to pull the lifters IMO. Unfortunately my 140k daily truck has just done this. Rislone doesn't' seemed to of saved me this time.
If it goes away at temp, I wouldn’t touch it. Some lifters bleed down more or faster than others due to production tolerances. Could be an exhaust leak, or even piston slap.
