Default Cam Swap LY6 Question

This engine is a GM reman wit 24,000 miles on it. Do they put new lifters in when rebuilding? The cam is a BTR stage I V2 and deleting vvt.
Do I need to replace the lifters and trays?
This engine will go in my '65 Malibu.

The first time I cam swapped an LS I didn't replace the dod style trays and lead to the lifter not being held straight on the cam lobe leading to immediate cam failure within a few hundred miles so do get the appropriate NON dod gen 3 style trays to match the ls7 lifter. New lifters is a must as they develop a wear pattern on the cam lobe and is a definite risk of premature failure if not replaced along with cam.

Im guessing you also meant dod delete? Your going to need a gen 3 timing cover for if you are swapping to a 3 bolt sprocket and not retaining the one bolt vvt phaser. You can do without a non dod valley cover as long as the gasket is sealing with the 8 dod towers built into the blockhouse shouldn't have to worry about oil pressure loss.

I wouldn’t be afraid to run a 24k mile lifter set at all. In fact, I’d rather run them than what is available new in an LS7 style these days, in most cases.
LY6 doesn’t have DOD. It’s a Gen4 engine so a standard Gen4 front cover is needed when deleting VVT.
The Oem LY6 valley cover will work fine in this application.

Thank you for the response. I thought this engine was non DOD, based on the flat valley cover, but I just pulled it and the block has the DOD towers. I am new to this.

I have the cam, springs, lifters, trays, chain, sprocket vvt delet cover and gaskets from BTR

Che70velle is correct your ly6 has no dod, my apologies!!! A dod valley cover would have a oil feed to each tower instead of the block off o-ring. Sounds like you have everything you need then with the parts list from btr and no necessary reason to replace trays or lifters if they look and feel intact

Thank you sir.
I don't have the springs out yet. Will I be able to see the rollers and trays without pulling the heads?

The trays can not be seen without removing the heads. You can see a handful of the front and rear cam lobes and rollers by removing the valley cover. Im guessing your trying to save money and send some of the parts back and not have to remove the heads?

You understand how to do a cam swap without removing heads requires wooden rods be stuck down the lifter oil galleries to stop the lifters from falling correct?

Yes, I saw a video utilizing the wood dowels and now toying with the idea of returning the parts.

IF you do the lifter trays... get the GM ones. Been seeing knock-offs and issues when some trying to save a $.

The picture shows the engine out of the vehicle on a stand. Rotate the engine up side down, give the cam a spin and remove, no dowels needed.

Thank you everyone!
I will be replacing the lifters, I already have the parts and want this engine to be trouble free for years to come.
Don't know what came over me, saw a video on utube and entertained the notion of being lazy. Nope.
