Yup
Looks like the boring bar insert-cutter came loose and gorged into the cylinder wall.

Find a new block
Find a new machinist.
Find a Junkyard pull
^^^ This ^^^

At the machinist's expense of course, since THEY did that. The block didn't come to them that way. They ruined it.

They can either sleeve it or get you a replacement block

Right where piston skirt is too. If it were 90 degrees over you would probably be OK.

The skirt will probably never hit that; looks to be at about the level that the oil ring would make it up to; butt it will be a GIGANTIC compression leak and source of blowby, as the 2 top rings go past it. At that level within the block, no way it can be resuscitated, regardless of where around the bore it happens to be.

It's SMOKED. Your machinist owes you another. Sure, they "could" sleeve it; OTOH with non-runnable butt rebuildable LQ4 cores (that's what that looks like... iron 6.0) a dime a dozen, that would be a $500 solution to a $50 problem.

Said there was a soft spot in the block LOL. I pretty much already knew what had happened just want other guys opinion. I have built my share of engines but I am no machinist. They were just trying to get out of taking responsibility for it. I have since picked it up along with all my rods and crank and pistons. Now just have to make a decision on the block.

Never seen a soft spot in a cylinder myself. They lied. I’d tell them they are going to make it right, or your review on social media with pictures, will kill their business. If you end up walking and you want to sell that block, PM me. I’m interested in it as is.

There is second gouge line about 1/4" below the deepest one, it is to the left of the deep one and longer. So there would have to be a "soft line" also in the clyinder.
I call BS.
Which should be the machine shop......... PRONOUNS!

soft spot in the block
Complete horse plop.

That block could be made out of jelly; there's still NO WAY that a tool could get loose and move THAT MUCH all on its own.

Basically they didn't have their boring bar tightened down properly, or something about it broke just at that point in the process.

They owe you an equal block core, and to finish on it whatever they've already charged you for. I'd hate to pull the "you'll hear from my lawyer" threat butt that's where this one is at.
