Default Will i need new springs with this cam?

I'm looking at a summit cam, it's a 209/217, .550/.550, 112+1. Will stock springs do or should i go ahead and order some stiffer ones?

You don't say what it's going in, but I'll guess that mild a cam is going into a truck engine (4.8, 5.3, or 6.0), and coming from a stock cam you WILL need the LS6 beehives for sure. They're not expensive. The stock springs can't handle much more than ,520"

I think any l96 would have springs good enough for at least a .550 lift cam. Do some googling and see what you can find but on a quick search, i believe you are good

Edit: this is not correct. See the next 2 posts.

L96 has a cam with .467/.479 lift, which tells me that it would use the same springs as most 4.8/5.3 engines, and they won't handle .550 lift according to past articles on the subject.

you are actually correct. I looked up the OE GM springs on rockauto for 04 gto, which also uses the cam you mentioned. They are listed as L97 and L92 springs when I look at that part number on summit, they say good to .520 lift. These would likely would still work for .525 lift cams.

if I look up the OE gm springs for 05 GTO, which uses ls2/3/6 springs, and find that part number on summit, they are described as ls6 springs good to .550 lift.

OP,

You're describing our SUM-8719R1 cam with specs of .550/.550, 209/217, 112+1 with -11* of overlap. As the other members mentioned, stock springs will not work with that cam. You need to run our budget-friendly LS6 Style springs. The 8719R1 will be happy out to 6,200+ with those springs.
