Default LS3/L92 block

Quick question. I'm finally back in an ls car. I remember that an ls1 really could take a hone job let alone a bore. I picked up a 6.2 engine. Do they have the same issue or can they typically take a hone job? Thanks in advance.

If the core shift isn’t terrible, I’ve seen them go out to 4.100 many times. I keep my 6.2 builds at 4.070 to 4.080. You’ll want to check piston sizing availability before you get very far along. If you have to order a custom set, you’re gonna wait about 10 weeks currently. Dave has a nice set of Diamond pistons in the classifieds right now at 4.070 for a good price….

Question about the rod bolts and main bolts. I'm looking to refresh the bottom end hence taking it apart. I'm not doing a supercharged or turbo build. Just a nice all motor build in the 500-550 range. Will the stock rod and main bolts(brand new of course) handle this? Thanks again.

They will absolutely handle that power level. I wouldn’t replace the fasteners if it were mine. Rod and main bolts are TTA, not TTY. Headbolts will need replaced however because they are TTY. You can get ARP headbolts for not much more than the new OEM style headbolts. ARP 134-3610 is what you need for the L92. Summit has them here…https://www.summitracing.com/parts/a...SABEgJx8PD_BwE

I know TTY, but can you explain TTA please? Sorry for not knowing the newer stuff in the ls world. Last ls car i owned was a 00 Ws6 Formula. Sold it in 2009-2010 time frame. I knew the head bolts were one time use along with the balancer bolt.

TTY are the head bolts and typically a one time use as where TTA are torqued to a certain poundage and then finished with an angle say 81° or 87° to reach proper bolt stretch.

Torque to yield is just what it says. You torque them to a spec that exceeds the elastic limit of the fasteners. Once the elastic limit of a fastener is exceeded, the fastener yields, and it cannot be used again. A simple explanation of the elastic limit is; it's the maximum limit a fastener can be tightened to and still return to the same length it was before. If that limit is exceeded, the fastener has been stretched, and will never again provide the same clamping force it did previously.....
