Default L92 cam replacment

So the cam I have in my 2012 L92 (Dressed like a LS3) is a bit more than I like.
Question? If line up the cam gear "dot to dot" with the crank gear do I have to take off the oil pump?
I've done a VVT delete so the cam is a three bolt.

Short answer is no, but you can’t see the crank gear because the oil pump and chain damper is in the way.

One could probably paint marker the tooth of the lower gear as to where the dot is to help.
