Default Scratches after honing?

Not the good variety. Broke a valve spring, dropped a valve, valve face broke off and hatcheted into the middle of the piston. Cylinder wall looked good- nothing obvious at the time.

Honed with a BRM flex hone, and found these guys. I did 20 seconds at about 5-600rpm. None catch a finger nail any more or less than the hone marks. Guessing surprises from the valve face before it imbedded in the piston.

Motor will be seeing 12-14psi via D1SC. Am I worrying too much, or do I need to exchange my new pistons for a larger size and have her bored to 4.075 (4.070 currently).

JMO, I would run it since you already have everything. This opinion is based on the fact you say it can't catch a fingernail. After break in, I would scope that cyl and make sure it's not wet with oil, and just pull that plug every now and then abd see what is happening. Short of that, go for it 👍.

Edit, dumb question- How did the valve spring break right off the bat?

The tech at GPI I spoke with thought it was the added boost pressure that wore them out fast. I went with the double spring option for a higher lift cam than mine when they ported my heads hoping I can get some longevity and a margin of safety in case it happens again.

Valve springs had 250 miles on this build that yeeted the valve, about 7k on the previous build that partially spun a rod bearing. Wasn't quite right away, but still too soon. Valve train for the first rendition was PAC springs, stock/ls7 lifters, rockers, and BTR 7.400 pushrods 7k miles. When the spring broke, I was running Johnson linkbars, BTR shaft rockers, and BTR 3/8" 7.500 pushrods.

And thanks for the vote of confidence! I was thinking the same but am plain paranoid at this point.
