I agree that the price is going to be high on these motors. I think you would be better off just going with a 402 ls2 or 408 iron block motor with afr heads for less money?

Everyone is talking about a price for the crate engine, what about a price for the bare block? I bet it wont be over $2500

$20,000? $30,000? Are these guys INSANE??!!

I talked to a guy over at Scoggin Dickey today. They are now selling the LS2 crate engine and the price is $5499. That's not for a short block...that's the complete engine from oil pan to injector. You can contact them at: (800)456-0211. I asked him to guess on the price of the LS7 (which he says will be available in September) and he said $8000-$9000.

The LS2 is rated at 400 horsepower. Why would 100 more horse cost you an additional $10,000? It's essentially the same engine isn't it? I don't know of any twin-turbo or supercharger's added to it that would increase the price that much. And I don't care WHAT kind of hocus-pocus magic is going on underneath that manifold. You cannot justify $10,000 for 100 horsepower. That's just insane. And if it were true....why would you waste your money on it? You could probably get the additional 100 horsepower out of the LS2 and still save yourself about $4000 to $6000.

The LS6 was an $8000 engine and my guess is the LS7 won't be much more.

What do you guys think?
After the life i've led, I don't question peoples sanity; however, some of these prices seem high. I'm interested in the LS7 as well...I joked in anEmail to Rick Jensen at GM High Tech Magazine if I was fooling myself to think the LS7 will go out under $10,000. It's still a supply and demand market where the builders have the upper hand and all the say. The Japs used to get their engineeres together and say build an efficient car for price $X and not let them go home until it was done...American engineers would get the same instructions but the $ didn't matter, time wasn't an issue usually and they usually ended up costing more. We have learned alot from the Japanese from a cost of manufacturing perspective...hopefully the LS7 as a crate will be < $10,000...i still have to beef up the tranny and rear so that's another $7-8000 to get the power to the street.

I could be wrong but I don't think you can get a complete C5R crate motor. You CAN buy the block at only $6,500...give or take a few dollars.

Of course 100 horsepower could cost many thousands more. It is alway true when modifying engines that the farther you go the more money each additional horsepower costs...everything in life is like that...shoes, women, firearms. etc. The more efficient an engine is in the first place the more expensive additional hp will be. The ls 7 has 4 to 5 thousand of titanium components in it. I can not understand why so many of you fail to mention that in your posts. It will be hand assembled which cost more than an assembley line ls2 plus gm has to pay for its new engine plant. It will be a minimum of 15 to 20 thousand. SDPC has 17,000 dollar crate engines that do not even have exotic metal components...these threads are exsasperating.

i originally guessed the price of an ls7 to be 18k....now i'm betting somewhere around 12k. between titanium components and hand assmebly, and the fact that it will be used on a limited production car such as the z06, i don't see it being horribly cost efficient like the ls2, nor do i see GM not taking advantage of it being a limited production item. it will be like the c5r block....you'll pay a premium for a premium product.

I agree, 16K or higher is crazy idea of a price, it's mostly the name and the upgrades that your paying for when you buy the ZO6. Like they say " the vette gets them wet ", and thats not cheap. I think the LS7 will run between 8K-10K, I started saving for my LS7.
