Default Looking for power...

I'm sorry to keep bothering this board but i'm becoming pretty interested in swapping an LS2 into my F-body.

here's my problem I bought a 95 formula firebird that was pretty basic.. I have since given it a face lift and butt lift.

I converted to the 98+ trans am systle with T/A hatch/ sideskirts & WS9 hood to match.. I'm getting painted this sunday. Black PPG 2 stage. I'm working on getting some custom leather from leatherseats.com. black and white interior theme. Some white on the outside as well.. I'm really pushing to build me a show car. I've been very detailed with all my work. the interior is all ebony except for the dash which i'm in search of..

I have a 95 LT1 with 78k on it and A4 tranny with stock rear no subframes and stock 16's. I will soon be replacing my 16's with some 18's I think HRP makes them.. That will conclude all of my visual mods for the most part.

Now I want to also give her some go.... my thoughts are to build an LS2 bare block with high quality after market parts which will be less than most of the GM parts if not all.. I would need a new harness or some EFI harness and engine mangament (megaswirt?).

Or an idea i've been playing with is a turbo kit... rebuilt it with some new heads low compression pistons etc. etc....

I'm looking for a car that show has some serious ***** as I get handled by AWD 4bangers daily but can be a daily driver. I figured the forced induction was the place to ask if my turbo will be everything I want.. Also if the turbo is the way to go.. Some advice on how to go about it would be nice..

I'm aiming for 500hp.. seems like a nice round number.

i'd do a forged 355, h/c and add a blower to it. you'll need more then just the engine, to swap in a GenIII or IV. the lt1 rebuild will be cheaper and i have no doubts you could hit your target goal.

The LS2 isn't a bad idea but keeping the LT1 and going with a 355 would be a great idea as well, and like jrp said, cheaper. Obtaining 500hp would not be a problem if you go with a turbo setup. PTK makes a nasty LT1 turbo kit.

but what would the overal cost of building an LS2 run? Aftermarket parts + Gm parts, using the best of both worths at the best price.

WOuld an LS1 harness out of a IV fit an LS2??? I mean aren't they the same from top to bottom besides size? I could get a full harness from inside to the engine bay out of an 98+ fbody sounds like a lot of work but you should see my car.. I've tossed all kinds of time into it. and I have a large group of guys who between all of us and a keg and some subs i'm sure could be done in a weekend. Both harness would = plug and play minus the engine and i'm sure some modifications would be required but really how many could there be?

I'm just trying to compare cost.

you'll need a new k-member, bellhousing and tranny, exhaust, air intake system, ect. just to be able to swap in a genIII/IV. thats gonna add on top of the cost of getting the crate motor. the main advantage the genIII/genIV has over the lt1 is heads and ignition. but you can solve that with a good set of ported heads and an aftermarket ignition system.

all the little parts are going to add up quicker then you think.
